Back in 2013 Sarah Ray and Andrew Traynor began discussing the potential value of gathering clinical pharmacists together in the greater Milwaukee area. This discussion then led to an exploratory committee of ACCP member pharmacists from various health systems in the area and consisted of Ramy Elshaboury, March Glisczinski, Courtney Morris, Sarah Ray, Erika Smith and Andrew Traynor. This committee held the first inaugural meeting for GMCCP on March 18th, 2014 at Concordia University with 55 members in attendance.
At this meeting the goals for the regional chapter were established, membership benefits were outlined, and chapter officers were elected. Goals mentioned included networking, continuing education, preceptor development and community service opportunities. GMCCP decided to provide members 2 educational programming sessions per year along with further networking opportunities. The members in attendance voted for the founding officers (pictured below) electing Sarah Ray (President), Courtney Morris (President-Elect), Megan Grischeau (Secretary) and Ramy Elshaboury (Treasurer) whose terms began with the chapters first fiscal year, 2015. The group officially applied to be a chapter in July of 2014.
GMCCP has been continually providing Milwaukee area pharmacists the opportunity to receive continuing education credit at biannual presentations, networking and community service opportunities. The organization has also grown to include an annual resident research symposium and further opportunities for students and residents in the area. GMCCP is continually evolving and is excited to announce future partnerships with free clinics around Milwaukee to provide additional volunteer opportunities for its members.
